Northwich 73 Moore 7
WITH opponents simply not of the same class, Northwich just kept scoring more at Moss Farm on Saturday.
After Hoylake had withdrawn from the Cheshire Cup, giving Northwich a bye, the Moss Farmers picked Moore from the fixture pool. Although from two standards lower and hopelessly outclassed, the visitors fought pluckily throughout.
The Blacks were without at least six 1st XV squad members but their strength in depth meant the side Kevin Greaves selected looked the part and they cruised through the gears in an 11-try blitz.
New stand-off and playmaker Matthew Bebbington converted nine of the tries and dictated proceedings from start to finish.
All players performed well but Aussie second row forward Nigel Farrow caught the eye because of how quickly he fitted in.
Northwich led 38-0 at the break with tries from Rick Smith, Stacey Hosking, Joel Barber, Adam Bown, Gez Gough and Jamie Miritana. Moore did manage a second-half try and conversion but yet more Northwich points rolled in from Smith, Bown, Barber, Chris James and Hosking.
Northwich open their North Two West league campaign at Sandbach on Saturday. The 2nds host Aldwinians, 3rds at Ormskirk. Other score: Wirral Junior Colts 22 Northwich 5 (Williams try).
