Chester 4 Winnington Pk 1
WINNINGTON crashed out of the Cheshire Cup in the 1st round on Saturday but were better than the scoreline suggests.
They wasted chances and were denied a penalty when Pete Evans was checked when he was through on goal.
Evans was the Park scorer, deftly finishing off an Andy Birsey break to cancel out Chester’s opener.
Chester restored their lead after the break and raced clear with two goals in the last eight minutes.
John Stackhouse was brought down and Simon Pinson scored the penalty that gave Park 2nds a notable 1-0 victory at Bebington.
Winnington won the recent Cheshire Under 21s tournament at Crewe Vagrants.
They started with a crushing 5-1 win over Timperley, Alastair Buckle, Ric Evans, Steve Campagnaro, Mike Dodd and Will Eggleston netting.
They lost 4-2 (Dodd, Buckle) to Neston South Wirral, but still reached the final from the group stage where they beat Alderley Edge 2-0.
Dave Hunt and James Charlton were the scorers and Sam Cloake was declared player of the tournament.
Also in the squad: goalkeeper Jordan Goostrey, Jack Millington, Richard Barber, Dan Jones, Matt Barber, Julian Buckle, Nick Ellaby, Ric Evans, George Cloake and Kieran
