Winning finale for skipper Yarwood

BARNTON’S retiring skipper Steve Yarwood left the field to a guard of honour after his final game in charge.

Yarwood’s seven seasons as captain ended in victory at home to Over Peover and he even struck the winning boundary.

Neil Langham brought his tally for the season to 43 wickets with 3-40 and is off to play in Australia for the winter. Paul Coot chipped in 2-25 and Simon Hancock 3-5 as Over Peover were bowled out for 94. Barnton made 98-6 (Ben Wingfield 29).

BEN Spendlove (80), Nathan Dumelow (68) and Danny Leech (39) were hardly winding down, but Macclesfield played out time.

Oulton 2nds, 118ao (Ben Tomlinson 23, Ben Kettle 21) enjoyed a notable victory at promoted Macclesfield 2nds 110ao (Alex Matthews 4-23, Tomlinson 3-30).

Winnington Park’s Division Two match at Burnage was washed out.

DAVENHAM looked easy meat for the champions, but they made a fight of it.

DESPITE a 25 points maximum win, Weaverham were pipped to promotion by Northwich and Barrow.

Rob McMillan hit 92 and finished the season just shy of 600 runs, and Kiwi Greg Ayrns passed 700 on the day. Matt Bebbington (37), Jon Lightfoot (25) and Steve Pinnington (22) were the other main contributors.

Bebbington, with a season’s best 5-7, and Jamie Ollier (3-18) blew Wilmslow away.

Neil Gerrard took a career best 9-43 as Lindow 2nds were bowled out for 129, Weaverham 2nds 92ao (Darren Falland 27, Phil Harris 23).

Winsford 82ao Barrow 83-5

BARRY Crellin’s four-wicket haul was the highlight of Winsford’s only second defeat in 11 games.

NORTHWICH finished runners-up in Division A thanks to an accomplished 52 by Mark Phillips and final-wicket taker Mike Whitehead (4-9 off seven overs). They needed other results to go their way to win the title.
