California is calling

YOUNG Northwich golfers Rhys Nevin and Tom Duncalf were among the winners at one of Britain’s top junior tournaments.

They were both among the honours at the Graham Moore Junior Golf Tour grand final at Woodhall Spa, home of the English Golf Union.

They both qualify as tour champions for the Callaway World Junior event at San Diego next year.

The final, the climax of a summer’s tournaments on top courses in the four home nations, was contested by some of the best young players in the country.

Rhys came from behind after the first day to secure the nine to 10s first prize, scoring, on the second round, 75, one under par from the age group tees. He was five over during the two days.

Tom Duncalf won the seven to eights event.

Weaverham based coach Moore said: “The standard on demanding courses was second to none and the results were especially pleasing for me as I coached many of the winners, including Rhys and Tom.”

Next year’s junior tour, which tries to replicate the professional game, includes a European Championship at Crans-sur-Sierre in Switzerland.
