Vics to protest over transfer embargo
NORTHWICH Vics have appealed against a transfer embargo imposed by the Blue Square Premier.
The league invoked the punishment when Vics failed to provide details of their finances by Wednesday’s deadline. Mansfield are also affected.
It prevents manager Dino Maamria boosting a squad trying to wriggle out of the relegation zone.
With Darryn Stamp (hamstring) unlikely to face Weymouth at home on Saturday (3pm) and Lee Steele sidelined long term, Maamria has recalled Aaron Burns from his loan spell with Droylsden.
Vics had centre back and skipper Mike Welch available again after injury for last night’s home game against Barrow.
After playing some of the best teams in the league Vics programme enters an easier looking phase.
Witton Albion welcome back striker Lee Thompson in time for Saturday’s FA Cup 2nd qualifying round trip to Gateshead.
He was unavailable for the games against Marine when teenager Zane Gouldbourne may have kept his place in the squad with a goal and exuberant performance.
Albion are at Nantwich in the league on Tuesday, unless either club are involved in a Cup replay.
Albion are at Cheadle tonight in the Cheshire Senior cup.
Neil Gill, the former Winsford United and Witton reserves manager, has lured goalkeeper Mike Langley to his new club Alsager Town from the Barton Stadium.
The shock exit of the Blues’ player of the season on Thursday has forced manager Joe Gibiliru to recruit Ian Lowe from Prescot Cables.
They face Maine Road at home on Saturday and are without Joe Gibiliru Jnr, who may miss the remainder of the season with cruciate ligaments damage.
Gibiliru Snr, 46, named himself among the subs at Hallam, but will abandon his “comeback” as injuries recede.
